In this show, Episode 21,  we'll be speaking with the co-founder of the Vendanges Solidaires initiative, Ludovic Dardenay. This is a crowdsourcing platform to help vineyard owners and winemakers who are having a tough year due primarily to climactic conditions. 

Next we speak with the Director of the Burgundy Wine School, Brigitte Houdeline, who talks to us from the school's location in Beaune, France. Lastly, one of the instructors of the Ecole du Vin de Bourgogne, Nicolas Tacquard, offers his insights on the wine and food pairing course offered by the school.

Election Cake - A Cake With A History, A Past And A Delicious Future!

For those of us throwing parties this weekend and into Tuesday for America's bumfuzzling '16 Presidential Election, this recipe, lifted off the New England Today food page, ought to set your course straight back to hearth and home (after stopping in at your local voting booth!).

Here is what their researchers say about Election Cake: 

... turns outs out that we've been eating it for centuries. When our Colonial ancestors arrived here from Europe, they brought with them a fondness for open-air celebrating, whether it was for a successful harvest, barn raising, or wedding. Often included in the fiddling and feasting were enormous fruited, spiced breads or "great cakes." Election Day, which was a springtime tradition back then, was celebrated in kind, not only because it was one of the few times a year when everyone was gathered together, but also because the act of voting was a treasured expression of freedom. And the cake? As Schmidt succinctly summarized: "Election cake is simply a version of the great cake they baked on election day." Episode 20 Paris GOOD food + wine by Paige Donner, Host-Producer

AOC Crémant Bourgogne brut blanc Marsigny   €5.40   - lovely and fruity 

AOC Crémant d'Alsace brut Henri Peter  - balanced  €5.59  

AOC Pacherenc de Vic Bilh Douw - Selection de Vieux Pays 2015  - €9.50

(Note: If you're a newbie to Pacherenc AOC but love sweet wines, this is a real jewel of a find. Candied fruit, lemon hints, peach confiture).

AOC Gaillac Doux Blanc Château Les Méritz 2014 - €6.95

(This is a blend of Muscadelle 20%, Mauzac 20% and Loin de l'oeil 60%. Ample and rich. )

AOC Médoc Rouge Les Chevaux de Patache d'Aux 2012 - €6.50 

(Surprising for a Bordeaux, you can drink this young as in now. Soft, supple and fruity. Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot 30%, Cab Franc 7%, Petit Verdot 3%.)

AOC Montagny Blanc 2014  -   €6.95

(This Burgundy white has a brilliant hue whose nose offers exotic fruits with hints of citrus and floral. Nice round structure to accompany your meals.)

AOC Saumur Rouge Puy Notre Dame Chateau d'Eternes 2012  - €28 for case of 6

(100% Cab Franc in keeping with its geographical profile of the Loire Valley. Black and deep red fruits with a delicate hint of spice. Perfect pairing for heartier Autumn meals. )

AOC Côtes du Rhône Villages - Laudun blanc Le Sauvage   €4.95

(Most people think of deep, rich reds when you say Côtes du Rhône. But with this white you're in for a pleasant surprise. White flowers and citrus on the nose give way to a delicate and long finish in mouth, hints of pear. )
